Rare, original, hand-made, leather jacket. Worn by Jerry Lee Lewis in the very early 1970's and possibly bought/worn in the very late 1960's. These Items were at The Grammy Museum, before we asked them to be returned.
San Francisco Music Company was a very hippie type company which specialized in handmade leather jackets, vests, and other leather apparel for primarily rock stars. They had a cooperative of leather designers making apparel for Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, The Rolling Stones, Grateful Dead and other artists who were the Super Stars of the time. Even the pieces that were not celebrity owned are highly collectable are sought after by rock memorabilia collectors and those who can be traced to an artist are museum quality artifacts of the era. Jerry was a hard touring, hard living artist and while the jacket is in excellent condition a few buttons made from small cross cut tree branches are missing but can be easily replaced. The rest of the jacket is in excellent vintage condition. We have not conditioned the leather feeling the next owner may want to have their own people do this but it is not cracked and has endured the rough decade well.
Notice the little stash pocket in an area that would survive a police "pat down,' and aide in the transport of essentials of the time. A few antique medicinal tablets were found in the stash pocket and were destroyed but it might register some residual substance under lab diagnosis.
He wore this jacket not IN, but on his personal time during the filming of the movie, "catch My Soul." The jacket is verified by his biological daughter/manager Phoebe Lewis-Loftin and Myra Gale Lewis-Williams (his controversial child bride."
Without a single doubt this leather jacket belonged to and was worn frequently by, SUN artist, twice Grammy Award Winner including their Life Time Achievement Award, Two Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Awards including Lifetime Achievement Award, The coveted American Music Masters Award, Country Music Hall of Fame Inductee.
