NOTES -

The story is from the longest poem in Siam 48,700 lines. Composed by Thai Poet Sunthorn Phu (The Bard of Rattanakosin) and is considered to be Thailands National Epic. It took 22 years to write.

Prince Aphai -  The Mermaid and the Pisue Samutra a female ogress who can transform herself into a beautiful girl. Composed during the period of Western colonization it was believed by many to be an anti- colonization piece of literature hidden in the long prose disguised as a tale of fantasy.

The author Sunthorn Phu lived in 1786-1855 and this pin was made likely in the last part of his life.
