SALES
- We do almost all of our retail business by mail with retail customers. If you are a wholesaler or jeweler and have a Tax ID contact us to set up a commercial account.
- Each gemstone is guaranteed to be exactly as described though sometimes standard heat is undetectable. One lab will state heat and another will say unheated or indeterminate. We try to do our due diligence but standard heat is acceptable in our industry. If we state unheated it is because we could find no trace of heat or we had the gems cut from our rough. If your lab detects heat or states indeterminate we are not responsible nor does it greatly affect the value of all but precious gems. We always try to find unheated gems when possible. If you want a GIA report (If we do not already have a report,) on a semi precious gem you can request so and we will send it at your expense to GIA for additional testing. If a precious gem is listed as unheated, we have a report or did batch testing. We always guarantee that you receive natural earth mined gems with no treatment beyond simple industry standard heat, if even that. Tanzanite is always listed as heated even when it is not.
Our products
Almost all of our gems and jewelry are rare one-of-a-kind pieces. Should the piece you desire be out of stock, we will contact you with possible replacements.

not send our gems on approval except for established commercial accounts. unless a gem was not as described there will be a 25% restocking fee based on gross.
Digital images
In our business, color is important. We do our best to ensure our digital images display an accurate rendition of each piece. However, due to factors beyond our control (such as individual monitor differences and calibration), actual colors may vary from what you see on your monitor.
Sales
Our standard method of doing business is via the internet. Internet law requires that any legal proceedings be in the origin state of Virginia. All legal action will be in and following laws of the state of Virginia.
Payment methods
Advance full payment is required for all purchases, unless you already have an account with us. Choose from one of the following methods:
- Credit cards and other payment portals:
We accept most Credit Cards including Visa, Discover MasterCard, Diner’s Club and American Express, Apple Pay, G-Pay and Meta-Pay and others. (Subject to change). Our providers secure sockets layer (SSL) technology is among the best available today for secure commerce transactions. All of your personal information is encrypted, including credit card number, name, and address, so that it cannot be read as the information travels across the Internet. NOTE- we no longer accept PayPal due to their new policies which require fees be added even on canceled orders. If they alter their new policy we will reconsider taking PayPal which we did a solid business with for over a decade (12 years)
Checks (Check must clear before shipping)
Call us 936-402-0320 and we can hold a product for up to 7 days as you mail a check. Once it has cleared, we will rush your order out to you. Checks amd bank wire transfers may make you eligible for discounts since we incur no CC or payment portal fees.
- Bank wire transfers
Call and/or email and request direct deposit and we will need carat weight and type of gem so we may hold it for you. Upon receiving your order we will fax or email you the confirmation together with our banking details. You then have to ask your bank to transfer the specified amount to our account. After receiving your payment we will immediately send out the selected items to you. Please allow us time (or call us,) for any savings you may qualify for.
Shipping methods
Goods are normally shipped by regular mail Priority USPS. If you prefer another carrier contact us and we will use that carrier if possible but you may accrue additional shipping fees amd free shipping will be void. If you want insurance you must pay extra for that:
Any possible import fees or taxes imposed in countries outside the USA will be your responsibility. Please contact us if you need further information on the import regulations for your country of residence.
Prices
All prices quoted are in US Dollar for deliveries within the USA. While we do our best to ensure our database prices are accurate, we cannot take responsibility for errors or price changes.
Privacy
We understand the importance of privacy and take strict care to ensure that all customer data is protected. We will not sell or otherwise pass your personal information on to any other company, institution, or person.
Returns
Our goods may be returned within 10 business days, in mint condition. A 25% restocking fee applies. We must be notified within three days of receipt that a return is imminent via email contact@oldvirginiagem.com. Texts and phone calls are not adequate. Use contact@oldvirginiagem.com and then you may also call us or request a call back. Under no circumstances will we pay any CC or payment portal fees on returns that were not grossly represented in color, clarity, cut (quality of cut not names which people use to try and brand cuts) again we do not send gems on spec since now some of the payment portals require us to pay fees on gems you purchased simply to look at and as a small business we can’t have our inventory unavailable for sale as you contemplate a buy which we are being charged for whether you buy it or not. We will offer store credit equal to the value of the gems you return at our sole discretion. This does not negate the restocking fees.
we have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau and we are proud to be one of the few loose gem companies that allow this scrutiny at our request. We are proud of the quality, rarity of our gems and vintage jewelry and have had three problems in over 20 years and all are resolved.
We are a small company and some gems are expensive be sure you can afford them before purchase. We work hard to get the you finest, rarest gems we can offer. Exceptions from this rule concern accessories, orders made to specification, or articles greatly reduced (over 35% below listed price, or items not generally contained in our range of goods, i.e., items which have been especially crafted or acquired according to fill a customer’s order. All returns must be made only by insured registered post. Return postage and insurance will be paid by the customer. For parcels valued higher, than USPS insurance limits the customer may have to take out additional third-party insurance. We don’t force you to take out insurance but we suggest it highly and if you have questions contact USPS.
Legal issues
All transactions are subjected to Virginia and US law. The USA is the place of jurisdiction for both parties. The 25% handling fee is primarily to offset costs we incur by your CC, or other payment portal. We will as always attempt to work with you but we have no control over these fees.
