In early 2016 a pocket of grayish-blue apatite were discovered in Namibia. Apatite can be a gorgeous as pool-water blue Paraiba Tourmaline, yellow green and even red.
But this new discovery in Namibia had the world enchanted with its colors like sudden submerging in deep sea water. Many were unremarkable and most were bit sizable or too gray. But, out of these newly found, Namibian apatite’s a massive gem was found. Apatite is not a hard gem and faceting this crystal gemstone can often be frustrating and difficult. But the huge apatite we named, “The Eye Of Neptune,” was a perfect blend of blue and gray. And, it was, “internally flawless,” meaning even with a jeweler’s loupe, no unwanted inclusions could be found even at higher magnification.
Its hypnotic color and oval shape like a large human eye gave birth to the gems name. We rarely name gems, we have had the, “Ekaterina Green Topaz,” from the Tsar’s Royal Mine, the “Vampire’s Tear,” a blood-red fire opal of the finest deepest blood red ever seen, the, “Psychedelic Moon,” Welo Opal from Ethiopia the two sided round opal that has no dead zones and “Neptunes Eye.”
This gem is the largest Namibian blue-gray apatite of flawless clarity ever faceted and along with “Psychedelic Moon Opal,” are the last named gems we have available.
Letting go of these gems is hard, they will never be possible to replace and we are left with the memory of holding the gems in our hands knowing when they sell we will likely never see them as they go from Beverly Hills, Dubai, as well as Japan.
